Irish Defence Forces Data Breach

Around 150 soldiers have had their data breached

Around 150 soldiers and former soldiers of the Irish Defence Forces have recently been advised that their data has been compromised, which of is course a breach of both GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Legislation. We understand that letters have recently been sent to these soldiers by Defence Forces Data Protection Officer. The soldiers have been advised that their electronic health records had been accessed by an unauthorised healthcare professional that was in no way involved in treating the soldiers in question. There is nothing to suggest that the data was shared with any third party, however the Military Police are carrying out further investigations into the circumstances of this extremely serious data breach. The Defence Forces have referred themselves to the Data Protection Commission.
